The Prambanan temple and the carnival in Yogyakarta

March 18, 2015 // 2 Comments

I spent my second day in Yogyakarta visiting the Prambanan temple with my new friend Matteo. I forgot to tell you that the day before, when Matteo and me went to Malioboro street by jeca, the driver of the jeca wanted to take us to a shop of marionettes, he was insisting so much that we told him we would go the day after. Well, when we left the hostel in the morning, the driver was there, waiting for us, ready to take us to this marionettes place! We tried to sneak out but he saw us and followed us saying “ today you don ‘t give me a job, no job today”, so we just told him to take us to the bus station […]

My first crazy day in Yogyakarta

March 12, 2015 // 0 Comments

When I left Bali to go to Java I was not expecting adventures 24/7, I thought I would have taken my time and relaxed a bit but every single day on the island was unexpectedly crazy! I arrived in Yogyakarta the 28th of February, I left my backpack in the hostel and went to explore the city straight away. The first impression was not that good, I did not feel safe and the heat was killing me even if it was only 9 am.

Teaching english in Bali

March 3, 2015 // 0 Comments

I love kids, that’s why I enjoy to be an au pair so much, I really wanted to go to a school while I was in Bali, I just didn’t know how to get in one. The manager of the hostel where I was staying suggested me to just go to the local school and talk to the main teacher and ask him if I could teach English to the kids for a couple of hours. I did it and everyone was so happy to have someone to help the kids improving, Indonesian people are  very curious about us, they love getting into contact with us, especially if we can teach them something good.   I bambini mi piacciono moltissimo, per questo ho lavorato come […]

THE MONKEY FOREST

March 1, 2015 // 0 Comments

The second day I was in Ubud, I decided to visit the Monkey Forest. I had heard horrible stories about monkeys jumping on people ‘s back, biting them and stealing sparkling things from them and I was kind of worried. I took off all of my bracelets and earring ( and people that know me know I never take them off because they’re too many) and walked to the forest. The entrance was 30.000 Rpe  and You can actually see the monkeys even before getting into the forest because they walk around the street looking for food. Around 600 monkeys live in the sacred forest and they are all macaques.   Il secondo giorno che sono stata ad Ubud, ho deciso di visitare la foresta […]

This is how I climbed my first volcano

February 27, 2015 // 0 Comments

I was on my way to the hostel when a man on the street asked me if I wanted to to climb the Batur mountain for 300.000Rpe, by instinct I said another agency told me they could do it for 200.000, It wasn’t true of course but It helped me to pay 250.000 instead of the full price! Batur is an active volcano located in the middle of two concentric calderas, its last eruption was in 2000 and on his side there’s the largest crater lake in Bali: lake Batur. I woke up at 2 am and waited for the driver at the entrance of my hostel, he was late and I started to freak out because my phone doesn’t work and I didn’t know how […]

Cooking class in Bali

February 23, 2015 // 0 Comments

I am Italian and of course I love food, I love cooking it and eating it and I think it is important to be open to  other flavors. That’s why I have decided to attend a cooking class in Ubud, Bali. The class is organized by a Balinese chef that owns a farm in the countryside, the good thing about it is that you pick up all the ingredients you need to cook in the farm and you actually know what you’re going to eat. Sono italiana e ovviamente amo mangiare e cucinare, penso sia importante non radicarsi ai sapori della propria cucina ma essere aperti a nuovi sapori ed è per questo che ho deciso di frequentare una classe di cucina balinese. La classe […]

First day in Indonesia

February 20, 2015 // 0 Comments

First night & day in Indonesia gone! First thing I noticed once I got off of the plane was the strong spicy smell and the boiling hot air, I liked the first one and I hated the second one, especially because I was  wearing winter trousers (the only pair that didn’t fit in my backpack) a jumper and holding at least 18Kg on my shoulders. It took me a while to find my driver(I managed to have someone to pick me up and take me to the hotel), I’ve been offered deals by at least 15 taxi drivers and I finally found my man after half an hour. The hotel was nice but a bit out of the centre, I booked a room just for myself […]
