SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

When I found out my host family was from Santiago De Compostela, I was so excited! I have always thought It is a very charming city, not only because of Its history but also because of the famous walk of Santiago which ends at the mighty Cathedral.

Quando ho scoperto che la famiglia per cui lavoravo era di Santiago De Compostela , mi sono sentita fortunatissima! Ho sempre pensato che Santiago fosse una città affascinante, per la sua storia e per il famoso cammino di Santiago, che ha come tappa finale la cattedrale della città. Proprio qui, la tradizione cristiana, dice che siano conservate le spoglie di Giacomo il Maggiore, apostolo di Gesù.

La città si sviluppa in diversi edifici che richiamano i colori dorati e in strade acciottolate pedonali, lungo le quali sono presenti moltissimi bar dove bere una cana e mangiare tapas.

The town develops in ancient buildings that remind the colour of gold and in medieval streets where you can stop in bars andhave a cana or tapas.

La cattedrale è il punto di ritrovo di tutta la città e da essa si può accedere a 4 differenti piazze. Ricordo di esserne rimasta molto colpita perchè è una cattedrale enorme e ti senti davvero minuscolo guardandola, puoi percepire la sua importanza storica camminandoci intorno. C’è qualcosa di magico nell’aria, forse mi sono fatta influenzare dal fatto che milioni di persone camminano per giorni e a volte mesi per raggiungerla.

The most important place in the city is the Cathedral . You can have access to 4 different big squares from It . I remember I was owerwhelmed the first time I saw It, It’ s such a might cathedral, You literally feel small when You look at It. There’ s something special in the air, the fact that so many people walk for days or months to arrive to It might made me feel pretty emotional.

Santiago è una città universitaria ed è anche stata capitale europea della cultura, e il celebre cammino è stato dichiarato patrimonio dell ‘Unesco negli anni 80.

Santiago is also a university city and was nominated European Capital of culture, besides the walk of Santiago was declaired a Unesco World Heritage in the 80s.

Santiago è anche una città moderna, infatti è qui che si trova la città della cultura della Galizia , essa è stato un progetto molto costoso e difficile da realizzare poichè il design utilizzato è stato scelto con lo scopo di far sembrare gli edifici delle colline. Quasi ogni finestra della facciata esterna ha una forma unica, diversa da tutte le altre.

Santiago is a modern city too, I got the chance to go to the City of Culture of Galicia which is a complex of modern cultural buildings . Their construction was challenging and expensive because the design of It was meant to make the buildings look like rolling hills. Nearly every window of the thousands that are part of the external façade has its own custom shape.

 

I have been in Santiago many times and I feel like I need to do “The walk of Santiago” , It must be a wonderful experience, You literally walk for one month and get to cross the north of Spain. I like to think It would be the first think I’ll do once I’ll be back in Europe. Did anyone do It?How was It?

Sono stata a Santiago parecchie volte e credo di dover fare il famoso cammino. Deve essere un’esperienza bellissima perchè cammini per giorni attraversando tutta la Spagna settentrionale. Mi piace pensare che sarà la prima cosa che farò quando tornerò in Europa. C’è qualcuno che l’ha fatto? Come è stato?
